Job Overview:

T-Mobile Cloud is looking for a Member of Technical Staff (MTS) Hardware Engineer who will oversee the hardware design and integration of server racks from Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs). This position will work closely with our internal customers to understand their workloads and applications needs to provide a reliable hardware server solution. This role will be the technical decision maker for product management, system architecture, and engineering for the hardware design of the Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning (AI/ML), networking, compute, and storage rack infrastructure.

This experienced MTS Hardware Engineer is a visionary who possesses the technological acumen needed to translate the vision into a roadmap and communicate how the roadmap translates into product development. The applicant will have experience in delivering new product introduction (NPI) and product launches.

The candidate for this position will possess robust technical skills and is adept at navigating a rapidly evolving environment characterized by substantial ambiguity. The candidate will bring extensive experience in the enterprise hardware rack and server architecture, coupled with a proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional reliability at an optimal cost.

The position will own the end-to-end hardware design strategy, in-rack power, and thermal, and safety requirements. They make recommendations for new products and overall hardware architecture approach by partnering with senior level engineers that will run their workloads and applications on the cloud hardware.

This position will lead the transformation of our on-premises rack and server infrastructure, driving innovation and delivering cutting-edge solutions to meet the evolving needs of our customers and the telecommunications industry.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical design and implementation of large-scale, cross-platform cloud hardware solutions to optimize infrastructure performance and reliability.
  • Develop and drive the technology roadmap for cloud hardware, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to evaluate and integrate new hardware products and architectural approaches.
  • Mentor and guide engineers in technical development, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct signal integrity analysis, and manage CPU, memory, peripheral interfaces, and device firmware interactions to ensure robust system performance.
  • Oversee the quality and reliability of third-party hardware suppliers, working closely with the supply chain to maintain high standards.
  • Analyze competitive market and industry trends to identify opportunities for innovation and strategic advantage.
  • Serve as the technical spokesperson for rack and server engineering, representing T-Mobile's technical capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • 7-10 years related work experience (Required)
  • 5+ years developing cloud server and rack hardware solutions (Required)
  • 5+ years as lead technologist, architect engineer in the hardware space for a major technology, component, product, product line
  • Experience with memory, CPU, signal integrity, peripheral device integration, hardware monitoring sensors, and device firmware interaction (Required)
  • Experience as a lead engineer for complex electronic systems (Required)
  • Experience driving the technology roadmap and quality of third-party suppliers and working with supply chain (Required)
  • Experience with mentoring engineers on technical development (Required)
  • Experience with in-rack power, cooling, and thermal solutions (fans, heatsinks, liquid cooling, power supply units, inverters, and batteries) (Preferred)
  • Experience with statistical analysis and modeling for reliability, performance, and cost (Preferred)
  • Experience Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) board layout optimization (Preferred)
  • Experience in driving hardware reliability through design enhancement and failure mode analysis (Preferred)
  • Experience with data center deployments of compute related infrastructure (Preferred)
  • Experience with the hardware development life cycle management (part library management, PLM); and bill of material (BOM) part numbering management (Preferred)

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, a related subject area, or equivalent industry experience (Required)
  • Masters/PhD/Advanced Degree of Engineering, Computer Science, or a related subject area (Preferred)

Washington Pay Range: $183,700 - $248,500

o At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year. Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance, while Retail and Business Sales roles are eligible for monthly or quarterly sales incentives. Base Pay Range: $141,300 - $254,900

Corporate Bonus Target: 20%
